Kell Brook claims he will consider retiring after being stopped in four rounds by Terence Crawford.
Brook, 34, said before facing WBO welterweight king Crawford that he would think about his future regardless of the result and he will now have a heart-to-heart talk with his family.
The loss was the third of Brook’s 42-fight pro career and he says he did everything he could in camp to win.
“I’ve got to sit down with my family and think what do I do next because I know I’ve done everything asked of me,” said the former IBF welterweight champ
Brook put up a valiant fight against pound-for-pound contender Crawford, who extended his perfect record to 37-0, at The Bubble at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand.
Judges Dave Moretti and Benoit Roussel gave him the first two rounds to have him ahead going into the fourth.
But then Crawford proved why he is one of the world’s best as he turned the fight with just one punch, knocking Brook against the ropes with a lightning-fast right.
Although referee Tony Weeks allowed Brook to continue after giving him a standing-eight count, he5 waved the fight off when Crawford pummelled him in a corner.
Brook has faced Gennady Golovkin and Errol Spence Junior and he admits he was shocked by Crawford’s power and speed.
“Never in my career, nobody has ever done that to me in sparring or anything,” said the Sheffield fighter.
“It was a one of those, I got caught with a shot I didn’t see. I’m gutted because nobody could’ve gotten me in better condition. I was bang on the limit. Maybe I could’ve been a bit more relaxed and loose and let the shots go.
“I’ve always said that if I’m in a fight, and am going to lose, I’m going to go out on my shield.”
Crawford also stopped Brook’s bitter rival Amir Khan last year and the American has won his last eight fights inside the distance.
He says he wants Manny Pacquiao next and claims that fight was “95 per cent” made before the coronavirus pandemic put it on hold.
“I already said who I want, I want Pacquiao,” he said. “I want to revisit that fight.
“Kell is a tremendous talent. He came and he tried to take my title.”
