Week 6 Fantasy Flex Rankings

With Week 6 of the fantasy football season now approaching, fantasy owners are starting to face some of the toughest start ’em, sit ’em decisions at the flex spot so far. With four teams on bye this week — the Seahawks, Saints, Raiders, and Chargers — plenty of top-tier fantasy contributors will be on the bench. Some players may have two or even three key players on bye, not to mention one or two more out with injuries. In order to fill those holes, some owners will have to plug in streamers or deep sleepers into their lineups. Comparing RB, WR, and TE options for your final lineup spot can be tricky, but our Week 6 flex rankings will help to do just that.

Because of the absences of Alvin Kamara, Chris Carson, Josh Jacobs, Keenan Allen, Michael Thomas, DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, Darren Waller, and Hunter Henry, among others, our flex rankings this week are a bit light. Instead of targeting players who would be fringe-starters during a normal week, fantasy owners are going to be comparing a slog of similarly ranked, uninspiring choices. It’s always tough to pick the right one in that area, but there’s one strategy that usually can help as a tiebreaker. 

Quarterback | Running back | Wide receiver | Tight end | D/ST | Kicker

That would be targeting potential high-scoring matchups or teams playing bad defenses. Most weeks this year, choosing a receiver going against the Cowboys is a good bet, so looking at some Cardinals (Christian Kirk and Larry Fitzgerald) as flex plays this week makes sense. Additionally, Falcons-Vikings, Texans-Titans, and Lions-Jaguars all have the potential of being high-scoring matchups, so grabbing some of those players could work out. So could targeting either Mecole Hardman or Demarcus Robinson, two players that could emerge as the No. 2 receiver for the Chiefs with Sammy Watkins (hamstring) out.

If you’re looking for safe options, target RBs who are getting guaranteed touches, even if that means you’re going with a volume RB in a bad offense (Devonta Freeman comes to mind). If you need upside, typically, the receivers are better in this area, as big-play threats (standard) and reception machines (PPR) are often readily-available on owners’ benches or on the waiver wire. And a friendly reminder: Always put your player with the latest-starting game into your flex spot. That way, if there are any unexpected cancellations or injury issues, you’ll have more replacement options.
