Week 6 Fantasy QB Rankings: Must-starts, sleepers, potential busts at quarterback

Fantasy football owners lose two key quarterbacks this week (Drew Brees, Russell Wilson) because of byes, but it could’ve been worse — Cam Newton was originally supposed to be off this week, too. Now, it will be Justin Herbert joining Brees, Wilson, and Derek Carr on the sidelines, and with Matthew Stafford and Aaron Rodgers returning — plus a host of sleepers with favorable matchups — our Week 6 fantasy QB rankings are still packed with plenty of worthwhile options.

Ben Roethlisberger (vs. Browns), Kirk Cousins (vs. Falcons), Matthew Stafford (@ Jaguars), Gardner Minshew (vs. Lions), Andy Dalton (vs. Cardinals), Ryan Fitzpatrick (vs. Jets), Daniel Jones (vs. Washington), and Ryan Tannehill (vs. Texans) are usually backups, but all are in good spots this week. Most are still just on the start/sit bubble because so many top guys have favorable matchups, too, but if you need to drop down to any of these players, you can feel comfortable using them. Roethlisberger, Cousins, and Stafford are all in our top 12.

Carson Wentz (vs. Ravens), Joe Burrow (@ Colts), and Baker Mayfield (@ Steelers) are the biggest fallers, though it’s unlikely any teams are counting on any of them on a weekly basis. Teddy Bridgewater (vs. Bears) has been hot in recent weeks, but a tough matchup knocks him further down the rankings, too.

One of the tougher calls this week is Matt Ryan given his recent struggles and Julio Jones’ hamstring injury. The Vikings aren’t a particularly worrisome defense, but it’s fair to wonder if Ryan’s ceiling is lower than we think. We’ll still trust him in our top 10 for one more week because of the matchup, but with all the legit sleepers/streamers outlined above, it wouldn’t be crazy to sit him this week if you have another high-upside option.

Many owners will also be hesitant to trust Dalton (vs. Cardinals), who will be taking over for Dak Prescott (ankle) for the rest of the season. Dalton is still a capable quarterback, which he showed by going nine-of-11 for 111 yards in relief of Prescott last week, and given the Cowboys talented supporting cast, he’s very much in play in favorable matchups going forward. He has every bit as much upside as guys like Cousins, Minshew, and Fitzpatrick.

Note: Check back throughout the week, as we’ll continue to update our QB rankings and provide analysis up until kickoff based on the latest news and injury updates.
