After being inspired by Inglis, NRLW star set to pave the way for another generation

Roosters NRLW star Taleena Simon spent her childhood glued to the television watching Greg Inglis, inspiring her childhood dream to become a professional league player.

Now, Simon could inspire another generation after her son, Eli, watched her play on TV last week for the first time, in her NRLW return after giving birth last year.

"My mum had him and she said that when he saw me, he was a bit confused," Simon said. "He's just like, 'Why is mum on the TV?'"

For Simon, this weekend is all about "redemption" after losing the grand final to the Broncos in 2018.

"We went through some clips of last weekend and so there's a couple of things we can improve on," she said. "The first year, it really hurt with the loss. It's just about working for each other and being there for one other."

Last week the Roosters came up against the Broncos for the final game of the regular season and lost 24-16.

The NRLW grand final will be played as a curtain-raiser to the men's game on Sunday.

Simon's son won't be attending this weekend's game due to the noise of the crowd, but will be watching mum on the television screen once again in the tricolours.

"It's definitely exciting to be back and especially this year," she said. "I was nervous [coming back to the game] because I wasn't too sure how I would be and how my skills would be.

"I was actually surprised. I was surprised about a lot of things about myself."
