Arsenal are plotting a bid to sign Lille midfielder Yusuf Yazici, a player who has been described as the ‘next Mesut Ozil’, according to reports. Arsenal icon Arsene Wenger is reportedly a fan of the playmaker.
Arsenal are in desperate need of a new playmaker before too long.
Having frozen Ozil out of the side, they have a lack of creativity in the middle of the park.
That was more evident than ever against Aston Villa, as they failed to break down Dean Smith’s side and provide chances for their front three.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was unable to register a shot in the match, an indictment of how poor Arsenal were going forward.
With Ozil out of the 25-man Premier League squad and unable to play until January at the earliest, things are looking bleak in the middle of the midfield.
Arsenal are believed to be ready to let the 32-year-old leave for free next summer at the end of his contract.
But now, according to reports, they have a plan to replace the German with a similar style of player.
Lille ace Yazici is being lined up as a future target, claims the Daily Mail.
Yazici has been on fire this season after bagging seven goals in eight games.
Six of those goals have come in the Europa League, as he has scored two hat-tricks in the competition already.
In his first season in France, he managed just one goal in 25 appearances, but seems to be a completely different player this season.
Arsenal reportedly made a bid for him while he was still playing in Turkey.
The fact they saw a £14.2million bid rejected proves he won’t come cheap for the Gunners.
However, they’ll have funds available due to the departure of Ozil, as they won’t be paying his £350,000-per-week anymore.
Wenger was said to be keen on signing the playmaker while he was playing for Trabzonspor.
Reports suggest Arsenal want someone who can attack through the middle as well as out on the right, and Yazici has filled in out wide on occasion.
Manchester United have also been linked with the 22-year-old, as well as PSV Eindhoven.
