- Arsenal have reportedly joined a tug-of-war for Brazilian forward Brenner
- The Sao Paulo star is attracting interest after scoring 15 goals this year
- The Gunners will face stiff competition from the likes of Juventus and PSG
- Brenner has a £45m release clause but his club could be willing to cash for less
Arsenal have reportedly joined the race to sign Sao Paulo striker Brenner, but will be up against stiff competition from five clubs – including PSG and Juventus.
The 20-year-old is the latest Brazilian starlet generating interest from the country’s top division after blitzing his way to 15 goals in all competitions this year and proving crucial to help the club stay unbeaten since September.
He has averaged a goal every 94 minutes and now has the attention of some of Europe’s elite sides, according to Calcio Mercato, who claim he has Italian ancestry, which would help him gain a European passport to boost hopes of a move to the Serie A in January.
Arsenal have reportedly joined the race to sign Brazilian starlet Brenner after his fine form
The forward has netted 15 times for the team this year, working out at a goal every 94 minutes
That would strengthen the hand of Italian giants Juve, while AC Milan and Lazio are also keen, the report adds, claiming Ajax and PSG will rival Arsenal in the battle to snare him away from Brazil.
In particular, PSG has been tracking the youngster’s movement’s ‘for some time’, it goes on, but any interested party will have to make a fairly attractive offer to tempt Sao Paulo into selling.
Brenner is understood to have a £45million release clause in his current contract, which ties him to the club until 2022.
He has been crucial to Sao Paulo’s recent unbeaten run and is generating huge interest
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta will be keen to bolster his squad after an up and down season so far
But Calcio Mercato says the Brazilian outfit would be willing to part ways with him for a smaller sum amid the financial uncertainty of the market during the coronavirus pandemic.
Brenner started his career with Sao Paulo and has played 55 times for the team, scoring 19 goals in total. He spent last year out on loan at Fluminense but failed to find the back of the net.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is already blessed with a handful of forwards at the Emirates, including Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and Brenner’s fellow Brazilian Gabriel Martinelli, but he will be keen to secure more firepower given their up and down season so far.
He has four wins and four defeats so far and will be keen to bolster the squad with more quality to bring Champions League football back to the club.
