Borussia Dortmund left baffled by Man Utd making audacious bid for Nico Schulz

Borussia Dortmund were reportedly left confused by Manchester United’s deadline day loan offer for Nico Schulz.

United had been linked with a Dortmund star all summer in the shape of forward Jadon Sancho.

Though, when transfer deadline day arrived, the Red Devils are believed to have turned their attention to wing back Schulz.

It’s believed United proposed to sign Schulz on loan for the season for a €1m fee and to pay all of his wages while with the club.

Dortmund had paid €25m for the 27-year-old last summer as they signed him from Bundesliga rivals Hoffenheim.

He has not started a Bundesliga match in 2020 amid struggles for form and ESPN claim Dortmund were not impressed by United’s move.

The Red Devils were clearly busy on Monday having secured four signings as the transfer window closed.

Though reports suggested none of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s top targets were brought through the Old Trafford doors.

United hero Gary Neville had slammed the transfer strategy of his former club earlier in the window.

He had said: "Like everyone else they had three months off because of coronavirus, so I don't think it should be the case they didn't have the resource or time to get things done.

"Chelsea got their business done, City have got three or four pieces done. I don't think timing's the issue.

"It's just a thing with United that every time they go for a player in the last four, five, six years it feels they are a little bit desperate.

"They think they can hang on but they always pay it (the asking fee) in the end.

"That's sometimes where I think you can take control, give a hard deadline and say 'we're moving away from this deal’.”
