Chelsea injury news: Latest on Pulisic, Ziyech, Werner – expected return dates

Chelsea head to Crystal Palace on Saturday looking for their first victory since the opening round of the Premier League. The Blues started with a win at Brighton before losing to Liverpool and drawing against West Brom. Chelsea have been without some key players, though, and manager Frank Lampard will be hoping to integrate them back into his squad soon.

Timo Werner, who moved to Stamford Bridge from RB Leipzig during the summer, appeared to go down with an injury in the midweek Carabao Cup defeat to Tottenham.

He didn’t take a penalty in the shootout, with Lampard later confirming the forward had cramp so it is likely he’ll still be avaialable to face Palace.

Fellow new signing Hakim Ziyech is yet to make his competitive debut for Chelsea following his summer move from Ajax.

The winger picked up an knee injury during a pre-season friendly against Brighton.

Lampard, though, has suggested the winger will be available soon.

“Hakim is getting closer but he’s not quite fit enough to be on the bench,” Lampard said ahead of the visit of Palace.

One player who could return against the Eagles is Christian Pulisic, but he won’t be in the starting line-up.

The American, who played a key role for Chelsea after the restart last season, has missed the start of this campaign with a thigh problem.

“Pulisic is in the squad for tomorrow,” said Lampard.

“He won’t start the match because of the injury he’s had and it’s been a difficult injury but I am very keen to get him back in there.”

While Lampard will have to wait a bit longer to get Pulisic and Ziyech on the pitch together, he is already thinking about what the pair can bring to the side.

He added: “I think they will all bring the best out of each other.

“It’s a shame we haven’t had them. Hakim will bring something completely different for us.

“I am very excited to have them fit. I have a clear idea of where I want them to play.”

Billy Gilmour is not due back until later this year as he recovers from knee surgery.

The Chelsea boss said: “He’s progressing well. It was forecast as a four-month injury when he went into surgery and we’re three months on from that so it will be four weeks from now barring any hiccups.”
