Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder is ‘interested in signing Manchester United outcast Marcos Rojo on loan in January’ after horrid start to season

  • Marcos Rojo’s days at Man United appear numbered under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
  • Rojo is out of contract in the summer and needs to put himself in shop window
  • Chris Wilder is in the market for a defender after an injury to Jack O’ Connell
  • Sheffield United have had a poor start with a solitary point from their six games

Sheffield United are interested in a loan deal for Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo, according to reports.

The 30-year-old’s days at Old Trafford appear numbered, spending the second half of last season out on loan at Estudiantes and having not featured at all under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season.

And according to the Sun, Chris Wilder is interested in a loan move for the Argentine defender this January following their torrid start to the season – picking up just one point from their first six matches.

Marcos Rojo could soon be set for another loan move away from Manchester United

Several clubs were interested in the Argentine’s signature during the summer transfer window, however United retained him for their Champions League squad.

The combative defender returned from a disappointing loan spell with Estudiantes in Argentina this summer and could be sent out again to a Premier League club.

Rojo is out of contract next summer and needs to put himself in the shop window to secure a long term deal elsewhere.

A move to Bramall Lane for half a season could suit all parties. Wilder lost defender Jack O’Connell to a knee injury and still has a loan space available.

The Blades boss is hopeful of striking a deal with United as he looks to kickstart his side’s campaign.

Sheffield United’s poor start to the new season continued after they lost 2-1 to Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday.

Wilder’s side took an early lead through a Sander Berge penalty. However, they were pegged back by Roberto Firmino’s goal just before half time before Diego Jota scored the winner for the Reds in the second half.

The Blades are 19th in the Premier League table after losing five of their six league games, with their only point coming against bottom club Fulham.
