Dortmund explain why Man Utd are to blame for failure to sign Jadon Sancho

Borussia Dortmund have pointed the finger at Man Utd for their failure to complete a transfer for Jadon Sancho.

The 20-year-old winger is set to remain in Germany this season despite months of speculation linking him with a move to Old Trafford.

Dortmund made it clear early on in the summer that they would not be held to ransom over Sancho as the deadline draws near.

And they have stuck to their word, refusing bids from United which did not meet their £108million valuation.

They had also set a strict deadline of August 10 for a deal for Sancho to be completed, although it was widely expected that date would be flexible within reason.

However, Dortmund chief Michael Zorc has reiterated Sancho will be staying with the club and explained how the fault lies with United for not getting a deal over the line.

Zorc told Sky in Germany: "We had clear agreements with him [Sancho] that he could make a transfer under certain circumstances, up to a certain point in time. And then the door closed."

United are believed to have offered a structured bid for Sancho's services worth a total of £91.3m earlier this week to try and test Dortmund's resolve, but it was promptly rejected by the Bundesliga giants.

Realising a deal was increasingly unlikely in light of Dortmund's short shrift, United have now been forced to seek out alternatives, but are yet to get any closer to sealing a transfer with just two days of the window remaining.

The club remain in negotiations with Barcelona over the possibility of signing Ousmane Dembele either on loan or on a permanent basis, but again there are disagreements over a fee.

Reports in Spain are, in any event, now stating Dembele will not be leaving the Nou Camp.

Sevilla's Lucas Ocampos has also emerged as a late target with the Spanish club believed to be open to selling the forward for around £36m.

Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani is also in talks over a proposed free transfer to United.

The clock is now ticking for United, though, with the pressure on to wrap up at least one further signing before the window slams shut on Monday night.
