Manchester United new boy Edinson Cavani will wear the club’s iconic No.7 shirt following his move to Old Trafford.
The Uruguayan has signed an initial one-year deal with the Red Devils and the club have the option of extending that by a further 12 months.
The 33-year-old joins the club as a free agent after his departure from Paris Saint-Germain, where he became the club’s top scorer by netting 201 goals in 300 appearances for the Ligue 1 giants.
Cavani hasn’t kicked a ball since March but he’s determined to hit the ground running at Old Trafford and reportedly asked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer if he could make his debut against Tottenham on Sunday.
Question marks have been raised over United’s move for Cavani given his age and it may then come to a surprise to supporters that he’s been handed the club’s legendary No.7 shirt, according to widespread reports.
The shirt was made famous by George Best in the 60s and the likes of Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo have all gone on to continue its legacy.
Recent occupants have failed to live up to the hype, such as Alexis Sanchez, Angel Di Maria and Michael Owen.
However, Cavani will be hoping that the number will bring him good luck as United look to recover from their horrific start to the season.
Anthony Martial was sent off in the humiliating 6-1 defeat to Spurs on Sunday, meaning Cavani could go straight into the side when they take on Newcastle United after the international break.
The Uruyuaguan is short on match fitness but he insists he’s been working hard in his downtime to stay sharp.
