Higuain snubs Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as he picks three best forwards

Just a select few individuals in history have had the honour of sharing a dressing room with the two players many recognise as the best ever.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have shared 11 Ballon d’Or awards between them, the prize handed out to the world’s top player.

But with the two now reaching the latter stages of their career, their position at the top of the game is under question by some.

Well, by Gonzalo Higuain at least. The Argentinian has lined up with Messi on numerous occasions for his country, while also playing with Ronaldo for Real Madrid and subsequently Juventus.

Now playing in MLS, the 32-year-old has suggested that neither of his former teammates are in the list of the three best forwards currently plying their trade,

"Currently, for me, the best are Lewandowski, Haaland and Benzema,” he told EPSN (via AS). “Karim has been there for a long time, in the elite for 12 years.

"Lewandowski, where he played, scored and won. Haaland is a great promise, with a great future. He surprised me, he is a great striker."

Higuain’s Ronaldo snub should come as little surprise, with previous comments revealing he held his compatriot in much higher standing.

"Cristiano Ronaldo has a lot of ego,” Higuain said, before the two linked back up with Juventus. “If you don't say that he is the best, he is not your friend. He thinks that he is the best but he is overrated.

"I have shared a dressing room with Lionel Messi and one is nothing like the other.”

On Messi, he said: "It's magical. Everything is natural. He was born that way, it's in his DNA , he does everything effortlessly. Things that everyone has to fight for, Leo does them naturally That is what makes it unique. "

And while Higuain refused to include the Portugal international, he did include his namesake – the legendary Brazilian striker – when naming the best of all time.

"In history we have Suárez, Lewandowski, Cavani, Benzema, David Villa, Ibrahimovic," Higuain added. "And the best one who, ironically speaking, is in heaven: Ronaldo (Nazario). I always wanted to be Ronaldo, I always wanted to copy him."
