Manchester United supremo Ed Woodward missed out on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s top three transfer targets. The Norwegian wanted Jadon Sancho, Jack Grealish and Jude Bellingham but none arrived, with the Red Devils landing Donny van de Beek, Facundo Pellistri, Alex Telles and Edinson Cavani instead. Express Sport will now take a look at how they could have lined up.
It was an open secret that United wanted to sign Sancho from Borussia Dortmund this summer.
The Red Devils didn’t downplay talk of a move for the England international but, in the end, he was considered too expensive.
United had planned to give Sancho the No 7 shirt but that didn’t happen, with Cavani instead receiving the jersey.
Had he arrived he’d have been deployed on the right wing.
There, he could have linked up with Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial up top.

Grealish impressed for England on Thursday night, delivering a fine performance as Wales were beaten 3-0 in their friendly showdown.
And Solskjaer wanted him instead of Van de Beek.
Unfortunately for the Norwegian, that ship now looks to have sailed with Grealish penning a new contract with Aston Villa.
Had he arrived, he could have been deployed alongside Bruno Fernandes in midfield.
And it would likely have seen Paul Pogba sold to Real Madrid.

United really hoped they’d win the race for Bellingham’s signature.
They did all they could to land the teenager from Birmingham but, in the end, missed out to Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund.
If United had been successful, they’d have given him a starting role.
Him and Fernandes could have been a fine midfield partnership, with Grealish then playing further ahead.
Alas, it wasn’t to be.
