Republic of Ireland camp thrown into further disarray ‘as a SECOND player tests positive for coronavirus’ ahead of Nations League clash with Finland

Republic of Ireland’s plans ahead of their Nations League clash with Finland on Wednesday have been thrown into chaos after reports claim a second player has tested positive for Covid-19.

Manager Stephen Kenny is now awaiting the results from a re-test for the player in question with the results due on Monday evening.

According to the Irish Mirror, the player is asymptomatic and was re-tested on Monday following the initial tests on Sunday evening.

The team had been expected to travel to Finland two days before their Nations League clash but plans were changed at the last minute by the Football Association of Ireland. 

It had already been revealed ahead of Sunday’s 0-0 draw with Wales that one member of the squad had tested positive.

According to the report, Callum Robinson, John Egan, Alan Browne and Callum O’Dowda were all ruled out of the Aviva Stadium clash as a result of being close contacts to the player. The second player to have tested positive though is not among those four players. 

The reported positive test comes following Republic of Ireland’s 0-0 draw with Wales on Sunday, with Kenny bumping fists with his counterpart Ryan Giggs

Republic of Ireland are still waiting for their first victory in the Nations League after three games and will see Aaron Connolly and Adam Idah return to the fold. 

They have only scored one goal so far following a 1-1 draw in Bulgaria.

The trip to Finland will see them try and extract revenge from the reverse fixture where they suffered a 1-0 defeat to begin their campaign.
