Jose Mourinho issues statement on Son Heung-min’s future amid Tottenham exploits

Jose Mourinho reckons Son Heung-min deserves a new Tottenham contract and more headlines for being “an incredible kid”.

The South Korean came off the bench to score his ninth goal in six games against LASK in the Europa League.

Son has always been overshadowed in the Premier League by Harry Kane – and now Gareth Bale – though he is a superstar in Asia.

And Mourinho, who takes his side to Burnley on Monday, said: “I would love him to sign a new contract. Son has three years left on his contract so it's not like we are in an extreme situation of everybody being too worried, I think it's more a question of Son loves it here.

"But I wish it, he deserves and the club knows that. And I believe that sooner or later they will without any pressure, they will arrive into into decision.

“Is he world class? It's up to you. He cannot do more than what he does. Season after season after season, Sonny is showing how good he is.

“What does he need to do now to, to go to a next step? Nothing. It is up to you (the media) to do that.

“Or he starts doing s***, socially, and it becomes famous, and he becomes in the, in the big headlines, because of some weird or silly, or naive, social behaviour. Because he's such an incredible kid also, he is at that level is up to you to tell how good he is.”

On-loan Carlos Vinicius had two assists in an impressive debut in the 3-0 win over the Austrians. His fellow Brazilian Lucas Moura said: “He is the kind of player we were missing from the squad, he is a real No9 , for sure he will help us a lot.

"I am happy for him and to have another Brazilian in this club is good for me. He stayed at my home for the first days and now he has found a house, he has his family with him already. He’s a very good guy, very humble and I’m happy to have him here with me.”
