Manchester United could sign a centre-back on transfer deadline day if the right option becomes available, according to reports. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are poised to land Alex Telles and Edinson Cavani, while they’re also hopeful of securing a deal for Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele. However, it appears a defender may also be on the move to Old Trafford.
Manchester United lost 6-1 to Tottenham on Sunday afternoon on a humiliating afternoon at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils took an early lead through Bruno Fernandes, who scored from the penalty spot after Anthony Martial had been fouled inside the area.
However, Tottenham capitalised on Martial’s red card to run out clear runners, with braces from Son Heung-Min and Harry Kane, as well as further strikes from Tanguy Ndombele and Serge Aurier, making it a miserable night for Solskjaer’s team.
United are set to take transfer action in the wake of that defeat.
Cavani is understood to be in the city ahead of his move, with the Paris Saint-Germain icon poised to join on a free transfer.

And Alex Telles has been snapped on his way to Carrington to undergo medical checks, with a fee with Porto thrashed out on Sunday night.
However, the Independent say United could also sign a centre-back ‘if the right option becomes available’.
No names are mentioned but the club have strong interest in Dayot Upamecano, who starred as RB Leipzig reached the Champions League semi-finals last term.
Yet while United would like to strengthen their defence, they may have to settle with what they’ve got. And, after the Tottenham defeat, that won’t appease fans.
Harry Maguire is woefully out of form, with the England international failing to live up to the club’s high standards early on this season.

Victor Lindelof has been bad, too, and was benched for the drubbing against Tottenham.
And Eric Bailly had a horrific afternoon on his first Premier League start this season, failing to repay Solskjaer’s faith.
Former United star Rio Ferdinand recently called on the club to sign a new centre-back instead of Jadon Sancho, who has long been their priority target.
“I’ve been banging the drum for a long time about buying a centre-half,” Ferdinand told talkSport.
“It’s not going to solve every problem but it’s one of the biggest problems. There’s no dominant centre-half which makes the opposition think, ‘I’m going to have to do something today to get any change out of him’.

“You need that if you’re going to win anything. Jadon Sancho is a generational talent who is here to stay, so you can understand the interest, but for me, they need a centre-back.
“Upamecano is young, good on the ball, athletic, strong, mobile, plays every game. He’s one you can see coming in right now.
“[Kalidou] Koulibaly has been spoken about for two or three years, he might have missed the boat due to his age. There’s no resale value.
“Upamecano is the one who jumps out to me, when I watched the Champions League last year, he was the one who stood out to me.
“If you sign Jadon Sancho, I think you still have the same problems as last season.”
