Man Utd’s stance on Edinson Cavani and Luka Jovic transfers with deadline day approaching

Manchester United’s chances of signing either Edinson Cavani or Luka Jovic this summer are both slim, but for different reasons. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano explained on Thursday that United are unlikely to sign either striker.

United have just days to go to get any new signings over the line before the transfer deadline passes.

Club chiefs are working to try and sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund and are also keen on Porto defender Alex Telles.

However, they have also been tipped to bring in a new centre-forward to provide competition for Anthony Martial.

Cavani has been linked after leaving Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season on a free.

The veteran is currently without a club, but Romano reports that the 33-year-old wants a long-term contract with a “huge” wage, and for that reason United aren’t pursuing him.

Jovic, on the other hand, would more than likely only be available on loan.

The striker only signed for Real Madrid last summer in a deal reported to be worth a whopping £59million.

However, he failed to find his feet at the Bernabeu and has been offered to clubs by Madrid this summer.

But Romano reports that he is now set to stay, with Borja Mayoral set to be offered out instead.

He told The United Report: “About Cavani and Jović, I think Jović can stay at Real Madrid because they are considering selling Borja Mayoral.

“Jović has been offered to many clubs – To AS Roma, AC Milan, Manchester United, Bundesliga clubs.

“At the moment I think Manchester United are not considering him as the first option.

“If we arrive at Monday and they don’t have any other options, they can consider him.

“At the moment it’s not advanced. He has been offered, the same with Cavani, Cavani has been offered to Manchester United but he wants a long-term deal and a huge wage.

“That’s why Manchester United are considering other options.

“You always have to remember 100+ players are offered every month, so it’s normal.”
