Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has not given up hope of landing Borussia Dortmund pair Jadon Sancho and Erling Haaland after missing out on both in the last 10 months.
The youthful duo are still the top two transfer targets at Old Trafford as Solskjaer believes they would be great assets for United in the long-term, ESPN reports.
United pulled out of a deal for Haaland back in January leaving the path clear for Dortmund to swoop and nab the striker for an initial outlay of just €20million (£18m).
It was United's reluctance to fork out the related agents fees which saw them withdraw, while they were also not prepared to include a release clause in the Norwegian's contract.
Haaland, 20, has since been hitting top form in Germany, scoring 22 times in 23 appearances.
Meanwhile United's failed pursuit of Sancho has been well publicised.
Dortmund made clear their demands must be met before their deadline of August 10 but United were not willing to play ball.
Had United been prepared to pay the £108m fee Dortmund were asking there is a good chance Sancho would have been allowed to leave after that date, but such a bid was not forthcoming.
In the end United would only go as far as £91m, with the rejection of that offer forcing them to scramble around for other targets on deadline day.
Who should United prioritise signing next? Have your say below.
Among them, United signed veteran striker Edinson Cavani as well as two youth prospects – Facundo Pellistri and Amad Diallo – both of whom play in Sancho's preferred right-wing slot.
Those arrivals have not deterred Solskjaer though who remains keen on bringing both Haaland and Sancho to Old Trafford in the future.
After a frustrating summer, Solskjaer has now been given another issue to contend with as midfielder Paul Pogba talked up a move to Real Madrid.
In his latest glance at another club, the Frenchman said: "Yes, all footballers would like to play for Real Madrid. Maybe it is a dream. It is a dream for me, why not one day."
