Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang faces Man City worry after Gabon confirm ankle injury

Arsenal could be without Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for their crunch clash with Manchester City.

The Gunners face Pep Guardiola’s side after the international break and will be looking to continue their strong start to the Premier League season.

Mikel Arteta’s team have won three of their opening four matches and sit fourth in the table on goal difference.

Aubameyang has been relatively quiet by his own high standards, scoring just once and assisting one this season.

And he could be in a race to get back to fitness for the clash with City having withdrawn from the Gabon squad.

“Aubameyang suffers from a small sprained ankle, contracted on Sunday, during the Premier League match against Sheffield," Gabon national team coach Patrice Neveu said.

"The Arsenal doctor sent me a certificate indicating his unavailability. He is in care for a week."

Aubameyang stayed at Arsenal in the summer and put pen to paper on a new deal at the Emirates.

His future had been up in the air but the 31-year-old was delighted to secure a longer stay in north London.

“Signing for this special club was never in doubt,” Aubameyang said. “It’s thanks to our fans, my teammates, my family and everybody at this club that I feel like I belong here.

“We can achieve big things together. We have something exciting here and I believe the best is to come for Arsenal.”

While Arteta added: "It was important for Pierre-Emerick to stay with us.
