What Man Utd think about Tahith Chong barely playing for Werder Bremen so far

Manchester United are said to be relaxed about Tahith Chong’s situation at Werder Bremen. The Dutch winger was loaned to the Bundesliga side during the summer transfer window. But he’s got just 81 minutes of action under his belt so far.

United tied Chong down to a new contract last season, ending speculation surrounding the forward’s future in the process.

And they then decided to loan him out to enhance his development.

Chong has barely played for Werder since arriving, however, with the 20-year-old restricted to just 81 minutes of action so far.

But Bremen chief Clemens Fritz has insisted that United are relaxed over their handling of Chong at the current moment in time.

“The exchange with Manchester is going very well,” he told German outlet Deichstube.

“Tahith is close to the team. Neither we nor Manchester United are concerned that he won’t get enough playing time.

“There will be enough time for it. You can already see developmental steps in him. Steps that should lead to longer Bundesliga appearances as soon as possible.”

When Chong signed a new contract back in March, he hailed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for believing in him.

He said: “I’m at a club where, if you work hard, you get your opportunities. It’s all about taking those opportunities as well.

“I think we’ve got a manager who believes in young players. It’s an exciting time at the moment.

“I speak to the manager and everyone around the club to look to what is best for you to do.

“I think the club is coming in with a brilliant plan and it is just exciting to see what’s going to happen.

“The club has done a fantastic job really with the young players. It’s always been a club that gives opportunities to youngsters. This year it has been amazing the faith and trust that the manager has been showing in the young players.”

Chong also admitted he knew he needed to improve in order to become a United regular.

“I know I’ve got a lot of improvement to do. Everyone around the club is doing a brilliant job to help me do that as well”, he added.

“Just signing a new deal, I’m going to kick on now to keep improving day by day, training by training and game by game.”

Before Chong left, his agent said: “Mr Solskjaer kept his promise from March when he told Tahith that he could leave the club.

“The boy really wants to go to Werder.

“He wants to be part of their preparation as soon as possible so that he can quickly find his way around.”
